New video out and general update

Here's our new (and quite extensive) video:

Finally, this is the first video made with new software, which means, it's not perfect and it took a while to get done, but the good news is: Future videos will look better and won't take as long to get done. The first one is obviously the hardest.

In other news: The last episode of Game of Thrones was really exciting. Clearly the best of the season and probably better than nine episodes of season 6. The biggest question right now seems to be what will happen with the Lannister brothers. Will Tyrion advocate sparing Jaime? If so, Daenerys will probably not like it all that much after already having expressed doubts in Tyrions loyalty. If he doesn't side with Jaime, though, what would that make us feel like? I can't say I would like it. Here's hoping both will make it out of this alive, but here is also hoping it won't be too easy. Isn't GoT at its best when it feels like nobody is safe? That feeling was back at the end of the last episode and I very much hope it is here to stay after three and a half episodes of playing it safe.

Thoughts on "Dragonstone" and other stuff

Long time no ... blog, I guess.

Before I want to say one or two things about last night's episode and why there will be no Review² covering it, let me give a quick reminder that there have been two new videos in the meantime:

Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about why there will be no Review² this season. As you will probably remember, last season we did a episode review called Review². It won't happen this season, because I do not feel like it. I am NOT a show hater, mind you. I enjoyed last night's episode, but I simply can't get excited enough and I don't even completely know why. There WILL be other videos coming up, though. The next one would already be up, hadn't it become longer than I planned. Stay tuned for that!

So, here are some thoughts on Dragonstone.

1) I have a hard time seeing Euron and Cersei as a real threat to Dany. It feels like Dany's army (and dragons) will completely destroy them without even breaking a sweat. It hasn't been a secret for a long time that the real threat is further north. The pairing of Cersei and Euron feels like a desperate try to give people something to do until it is time for the real war against the dead to begin, because they cut Aegon's storyline, rid Cersei of any and all meaningful allies and didn't establish any other believable threat to Dany's invasion.

2) Ed Sheeran was fine, Dragonstone looked great and I like where they are going with the Hound and the Brotherhood. I liked most of the little things, even Sam, even if I doubt they have a good plan what to do with him from here on out.

3) I don't like what they are doing with Sansa. There are only two ways this can go. Either Sansa will at some point oppose Jon. If that should happen, I will hate it. Sansa should by now be smart enough not to trust Littlefinger and her bond with Jon should be strong enough. If she doesn't turn on Jon, though, why even include all this? Littlefinger is the big problem of the Northern storyline. He shouldn't even be there to begin with.

4) The ""Iron Fleet"". (Using double quotation marks, just to be safe.) Not only did Euron build a fleet in no time, he build the ""Iron Fleet""? Building a ship takes time. Building the biggest and best fleet the Iron Islands have ever seen takes A LOT OF time. How much time do we think has passed since Euron said, he'll build a fleet? It can't be three years. I think the show doesn't allow for more time than between one and two years having passed. I mean, what has Arya done in the meantime, for example? How long exactly have Cersei and Jaime not talked about Tommen's death? But building a fleet like the one we saw ... My estimate would be more like ten years. It would have been easy to not fall into that stupid plot hole. Yet, there it is and in they went.

So much for now, guys.

Deadliest Fighter in ASoIaF?

Today I am happy to introduce you to the other half of Frey Pies for Skagos, my old friend Ser Greenstone. In our first video in which you can hear both of us talking, we debate the eternal question of the deadliest fighter in ASoIaF is.

Stay tuned for the encore, in which we will talk about some more fighters who did not quite make the list!

Link to Tower of the Hand (and new video)

Since YouTube doesn't let me link to Tower of the Hand directly, here is the link.

And here's the new video:

Back from our little break ...

After taking a little bit of a break after the finale of Game of Thrones season 6, we are back with a new video. Here are our first thought on seasons 7 and 8, probably rather 8 and 7, actually.

The North remembers?

It turns out that all the talk about the North remembering amounts to ... nothing. I can't really imagine that was the plan all along judging from season 5. There's good new, however: Dany seems ready to leave Meereen, Ramsay Bolton is dead and we got a pretty good episode.
